Public or Private Information

Today in Cyber smart we were talking about public and private information.  This is important because we need to know what is safe to share on-line.

After watching some clips about public and private we made a google drawing to show our understanding.  Here are some examples of the drawings we made.

Geometry

Today, in maths, we were learning how to describe 2 dimensional shapes.  We learnt so new ways to describe the shapes.

The activity we did involved Miss Scott describing the shapes she was drawing (using all the proper terms).  Then
we drew the shapes.
After a while we split into small groups and all took turns describing the shape we had drawn.  The others in the group had to draw what we were describing.

Big Changes Are Happening....

Today everyone returned to school and noticed some big changes happening in the school grounds.  First - Rooms 1-4 are no longer there.
Second - There are new classrooms being put on the field.

Here are some images of Rooms 1-4 being demolished.

Fantastic Fundraisers

During Term 2 the amazing PSG (Parent Support Group) ran a fundraiser.  We had to sell reusable shopping bags, reusable produce bags or bandaids.
The top 3 sellers got major prizes.
Everyone who sold ten items got a minor prize
There were also spot prizes.

Here are some Room 7 students with their prizes.

Information Reports

While studying Creepy Crawlies we also did some writing about them.  We wrote some information reports.

An information report needs:
- a title
- an introduction
- information paragraphs
- a conclusion

Here are two examples of information reports:

Duffy Books

During the last week of the term we received our Duffy Books.  Thank you to Mr Rolleston for sponsoring our school to receive these.   We all enjoy the chance to read different books.

Miss McDonald Leaving

Term 2 was a very busy one for us all.  One of the highlights was having such an amazing Trainee Teacher in our class.  She was fun, kind, nice, organised and taught us some interesting things.  We will all miss her.  She was very kind and gave us a book and a puzzle before she left.
Thank you Miss McDonald for all you did for us.

Paper Mache and Clay Creepy Crawlies

To finish off out Creepy Crawlies topic we made examples of some native creatures.  We were given the choice of making these out of paper mache or baking clay.  Here are our models (some still require finishing off)

Zones Basketball

On Tuesday 2 July Hornby Primary had a team competing in the Zones Basketball Tournament.  We finished 2=.

The results of the tournament came down to the very last game with Hornby playing Burnside.  Whoever won it would have won the tournament.  Unfortunately the game was a draw.  This meant that Fendalton was the tournament winner.

Michaela, Kody, Temera and Nuu represented Hornby from Room 7.

Fitness Circuits

For Fitness during Term 2 we spent some time doing circuits.  We had to design the circuits and chose our activities for the day.
Some activities we could choose were:
- Step ups
- Shuttle Runs
- Lunges
- Squats
- Pull Ups
- Planks
- Skipping
- Star Jumps
- Wall Sits

Here we are doing some of the activities.

Decomposers and Pollinators

We have spent some time learning about pollinators and decomposers.

Pollinators are insects like bees.  They help plants to grow fruit.
Decomposers are creatures like worms.  They eat dead parts of plants.

Here is Fernando's slide show about Bees and Worms

Bee's Pollinating Plants

One of the things we learnt about this term was how bee's pollinate plants.  We played a game on the field that showed how cross pollination occurs.  Then we made a DLO to show our understanding.  Here are two examples of what we created.

Special Spiders

During buddy class we continued making things that relate to the book Charlotte's Web.  This time we use pastel and dye to make a spiders web.  Then we used egg cartons, eyes and pipe cleaners to make a spider.

Here are some of the spider webs and spiders we made.

Basketball Term 2

Basketball is continuing for the three teams on Friday nights.  All teams are showing improvement and are playing with good sportsmanship.  Here is a picture from when two of the teams played each other.

Precious Pigs

One of the many activities we did, during term 2's buddy class time, was make models of pigs.  The reason we did this was because both classes have been reading the book "Charlotte's Web".  One of the main characters in the book is a pig called Wilbur.

To make the pigs we had to
- colour in the faces (or draw our own)
- make slots for the legs
- glue on the eyes/face/legs/tail/nose

Here are some of the pigs we made.

Shared Lunch

On the last Wednesday of the term we had our shared lunch.  It was great to share food with our friends and the families that attended.  Being a nice day meant we could eat outside.  Here we are enjoying our shared meal.
